Let's Get This Christmas Started!

I hauled out the holly this afternoon and began to deck the hallways just a smidge this evening. I purchased a few silver and red sparklies at Target's dollar spot a couple of week's ago and after I spread out the Christmas craziness all over the dining table, I started to wind it around and around (much as I did to the fall wreath) a form from Dollar General. As the wreath began to take shape I realized that it was beginning to look curiouser and curiouser (and by curious I mean kitsch at it's very best). But I went along with the "art" as it began to unfold and here it is, my friends. I little throw up-y, but hey, my kids like it!
 We even had a few minutes to pick up a Christmas tree! As soon as we arrived at the tree lot Parker went off to find us the perfect one. A few minutes later he called us over. He'd found it ... and it is beautiful!
 Just a glimpse of stage one. The lights are up just before bed time.

What We Wore

{necklace & boots - Urban Outfitters, dress - H & M, (sexy) cardi - Loft, tights - Gap}

I'm home ... a little sad and a little glad. We drove through the night last night and the reason I am blogging right now is simply because little one is up and so I can't be down. I'll join him for his morning nap. Our vacation was so wonderful and there were plenty of delicious, funny, and thrilling moments. In order - Ruth's pies, Dance Central on Kinect (awwwesome, by the way!), and gorgeous little finds to add to my Christmas decor (beginning tomorrow as I have a party on Thursday, ugh!).

This is what Cara and I wore yesterday. First, a close up of Cara Meliah ...
{necklace - antique market, (sexy) cardi - Besselli, dress - Fossil, tights (borrowed) - Gap, boots - Sam Edelman}

I found this dress at the Fossil store in Tulsa, on the sale rack, and instantly fell in love with it's shape, color, and print. Thanks husband!
My mom picked up this amazing coral-y red Essie polish at J. Crew for the girls and on Saturday night we had a margarita and nail painting party. After 3 coats plus a clear top coat (I don't usually get that far as my manicure time at home is often limited, but we wanted to do it right in the hopes that it lasts longer than 2 days) we had to wait ages and ages for them to dry properly before we went to bed. It was kinda funny, cause we were so tired and we had to lay around chatting long after we should ... thoughts slurred and eyes blinking heavily. But the nails still looked good in the morning!
How was your Thanksgiving and holiday weekend? Find anything nice?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving and if you're overseas, just a great ol' day! So far we've clapped excessively to parade songs, danced exuberantly around the room to the Glee Christmas album, and enjoyed the lovely smells of our meal cooking it's way to the table. It's been grand.

Dazzling the (Sometimes) Dreary

You've probably noticed this hat a few times now (here and here) as it's become my "2nd day hair" life saver. I recently found some gorgeous ribbon at Hobby Lobby and it was all half price! They even had amazing velvet ribbons in several rich colors and varying widths, perfect as a belt to tie around the waist, a hat bedazzler, or even a fancy bow to wrap around a gift. Above are a few of the ribbons I picked up ($1.00 per roll) with the purpose of using them as an interchanging & pretty accessory for my hat, depending on my mood or outfit. Perfect right?

I started with the brown and added a couple of vintage clip on ear rings for a little fun.
Look forward to playing with the velvet (with a little feather perhaps?)

We're Going on a Trip!

Today I'm packing, cleaning, and preparing the family for our long journey to Tulsa. My little sis and her hubs will be hosting Thanksgiving this year and we can't be more excited. Though NOT for the 14 hour drive that's looming ahead. Can't wait to share this fabs holiday with everyone down there and watch the Macy's parade and shop and put up a Christmas tree and eat and .... shop. Till then!

The Last of Autumn

Ah ... winter is quickly creeping in through the cracks; not so shy anymore. I found this dress hiding quietly amongst the bright and shinys and I thought it was the perfect last ode to fall, it's  blossoms reminding me of all the crunchy brown leaves now underfoot their spindly trees. I recently found the perfect everyday cardigan that's a "works with everything" creamy hue, like a delicious condensed milk, these boots their caramel counterpart. (Hmmm... can you tell I'm ready for Thanksgiving desserts?).  The tights are a cozy hunter green cable knit, sure to keep my legs toasty even in the thick of winter. The outfit is accented with a fairly new necklace (gorgeous layer upon layer of amber beads and chain) and my go-to studded belt.

I find something extra sweet about baby doll dresses, besides their perfect-to-spin-in skirts  They can, in fact, still look quite flattering even as my body grows and shrinks from one child to the next. This one is another export from South Africa; made the trip over with me in '93 and I even remember wearing it to a "free dress" day at school in '95! Well, only for a few minutes as I was sent right back home to change (private Christian school with a 2 fingers above the knee skirt rule. Made me get down on my knees soon after I entered the building and then made me walk back to my car {traumatized for life as I was watched my a zillion handful of snickering high schoolers}. Wish my "I'm a foreigner and don't always understand your strange American ways" card worked in that instance). Anyway ... I've even worn this dress with a 5 months pregnant belly - pretty great huh? Is it possible that some of my clothing is now older than some of you? Does that mean I can now categorize these pieces as "vintage"? Haha. Back to the pictures.

Glamorous Gold

My antique lamp has become laden with my favorite jewels. It started with just one necklace and then more and more were added. I felt like this lamp was so decadent even before I started to dangle statement pieces from it's hooks, but now it's down right indulgent.
We've done a bit of rearranging (again) in our family room. My tufted velvet beauty has finally made it's way into the heart of the living instead of being stuck in a lonely corner. (In other words, my huz has finally come to his senses).
 Just a few pictures of the boys, taken over the course of the week. We begin with a sight that's become quite familiar to us, a sweetie outstretched in delightful anticipation (with organic puffs in other hand. Haha!)
 An assortment of funny faces from little E. We were working on a part he's auditioning for soon.
Hope you're having a fab week!

Perfect Match

For some of us, the Christmas tree and all the wonderful trimmings will already come out and bedeck our halls next weekend. And then the holiday parties and get togethers begin the following week. Here are a few beautiful Christmas trees hand in hand with their perfect match, a Christmas outfit, to inspire us for the weeks to come.
