YOU Magazine Outtakes

Remember when ….

I had the brightest and coolest and wildest pink hair? That was a fun moment. We shot these pictures for YOU mags travel issue, out next week. I kept the b&w and the fuzzy edits for myself. This shoot was really and truly a blast to work on. I'm trying to take these style articles to a new level for the magazine (and they're going to be a more regular section, so look for them). This personal shoot was the first to do that. Thinking outside the box and being a little more creative in terms of location or hair, vibe and aesthetic. The style section is a newer part of the magazine, whereas in the past, we focused on fashion in just 3 issues per year. So it's exciting to have some consistent fashion input there.

We shoot our next style photos this weekend actually. I'm featuring 3 local artists (singer, painter, graphic artist and dancer - me :), in looks inspired by their art. Love that idea! Having a very specific concept and inspiration for a look. I'm working with the artists own clothing, at least in 2 cases, and my own wardrobe is added here and there. I can't tell you how much I love this particular job. Creating style articles, brainstorming interesting ideas, challenging myself with new-to-me clothing. I'm very aware of the fact that I've not yet dressed a model in a pair of pants or a pair of shorts in the almost 2 years I've worked for the mag (well, except the men of course!). I just favor the movement of dresses and skirts and the beautiful way they photograph. But this time I'm doing it! Stepping out of my comfort zone and bringing in variety. I'm sure there are woman that will be thinking, finally, something I wear! Especially in a city where ladies tend to live in pants 9 months out of the year! I'm stretching … for this one. But I'm sure I'll be back to my usual favorites come our spring fashion issue in May. We'll see.

Anyway, this has just been a wonderful outlet for me, a mom who is often too busy and then too excited to rather chill on the couch than make time for the DIY's I've eagerly pinned. I'm really thankful it all came together the way it did.

Pick up your copy of YOU magazine next week, Wednesday the 19th. If you're unsure of their locations, I know you'll find them at your closest Festival Foods, Kavarna, El Sarape, and most of the local boutiques. At least those are my hang outs! ;)
