A quilt

This post is for my dear friend Chelsey, a lady I sorely miss and one who shares the same passion for vintage, thrifting and well, granny chic. She had asked me to take a few pictures of this quilt which an incredible local quilter made for me about a year ago, after it appeared several times on my Instagram. The fabrics are a bit of a hodgepodge of textiles that I'd collected over the past several years though there are a few newer batiks that I picked up to allow for the king size. All florals were originally vintage sheets. My inspiration was this image and I've found that my version looks pretty with the chevron pattern laying in either direction, so I change it up every once in a while. As you can see, the deep blues eventually lighten and change into sunset colors, ultimately "fading" again into blues. It's not easy to get a good shot of it in its entirety but I tried to at least show some of the detail. Enjoy Miss Chels! ;)
 And modeled by Ro who didn't need much convincing to snuggle under this mountain for a picture. :)
I'm eager to have another made (and another). I would love to try one in black and whites. Something like this perhaps? Or this! And this is stunning! There are so many unbelievably talented women out there and it is so cool to be able to see what they do and to get those little peeks into their homes via Instagram. Look forward to trying that video option soon too.

Anyway, happy weekend to you all!

Sunday Best {hot pink steal}

Hello friends! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

I went thrifting with Elliot on Friday morning and had a really successful time of it. I found this hot pink dress for one and a pair of beaded heels as well. Best part? Both were only $3 each. Unbelievable steal for me as I was completely smitten by them both. The heels have a serious 80's vibe going on but I think they'll work wonderfully for a holiday party, paired with simple dark denim. I'll post a picture of them soon. You'll love it (or dry heave). :)
100% spinnable!

I wanted to show off the detailing on the shoulders. That's what originally caught my eye actually. I cut out the tiny shoulder pads to make it a little more wearable and in fact, I have a similar blue dress on which I did the exact same thing. The tags are very old. What decade do you think it's from? Late 70's, early 80's is my guess.

Mama Style {flea market girl}

I recently unearthed these pants from the dark depths of my basement storage and after my mom replaced the zipper and let out the hem, they were good as new. Well, good enough. They're a pair that I picked up at a flea market in South Africa when I was ummmm .... 18? My best friend and I went to the Grahamstown Festival for a week of extreme "culture" and we bought a matching pair and wore them much of the time. We spent the week as true hippies. Ha!

Now I can wear them as a mere wanna-be cause there's really nothing about me that's hip, much less hippie. :) I'm now a dreary mom that prefers to stay home at night (in bed no later than 10:30 and that's a stretch) than to party with anyone, anywhere. And I will never, ever go to a midnight movie again. I also prefer drinking tea over shots of wheatgrass. See?

Thrifty Thursday & DIY

I bought several extremely inexpensive needle points a few weeks ago (only 25 and 50 cents each) and I had a plan to paint the frames for a wall in my hallway that needing a good sprucing. Well, I finally finished the job yesterday! These frames soaked up the paint like crazy and I thought they'd never be done but after a good 12 coats (at least), I thought, well good enough. Monty Rowan used the same paint (Behr paint from Home Depot) to create his own work of art. Here's a peek at the process.

 And the end product, up on our wall.
My sister and I did a little thrifting at St. Vinny's in GB and this is what came home with me.

Lots of books that Parker adores, buy one get one free day and not more than 75 cents each. We've been working hard on this giant Where's Waldo?
 This stunning black tray with painted florals.
And this piece of art ... really amazing. Look forward to finding a special place to hang it.

Mama Style {brunching}

I wore this to a little ladies brunch and fashion show over the weekend. It was such a fun and fancy way to spend the morning! It's so good to be a girl, isn't it? :)

Thrifty Thursday

Here it is! One man's junk ... my treasures.

 $2 quilt (serious!) and $1 baby boy romper (no news, promise ;)
 $1 each belts. Isn't that beaded one a stunner!
 25 cent to $1 fabrics
 75 cent necklace
 Bracelet connected to ring thingie I'm been longing for, right there at St. Vincents! Only $1. Gorgeous bangle for 75 cents.

 "Home Sweet Home" candle wicking and a doilie with embroidery hoop for a project (dream catcher). $1-$2
A collection of needle point that work together so well. 25 cents - 50 cents each.
Went back for these babies after much deliberation. A splurge at $30 each. Totally divine.

Gotta run! Off to swim classes again. Prayers that they're better than last week. Ugh!

A Day in the Life

Yesterday I tackled a project I've had planned for a while now, as it required a trip to Home Depot to pick up some paint (not my favorite thing). I found these adorable silhouettes at a thrift store about a month ago and though they weren't awful in their regular frames, I thought a little turquoise paint would spice them up a bit. I just had to pick out the perfect shade, which is where things get intimidating for me.
This family of 5 is now hanging from our tree but I have plans to move them to a better spot. I'm just going back and forth between 2 walls, trying to make a decision.
I found this framed map on that same thrifting excursion and thought it could also use a splash of turquoise. It's now hanging in the guest bath room.

And changing subjects, but I mentioned yesterday that we had made cupcakes (for the kid's really) for my husband's birthday. I took a few pictures of them once they were alight with 34 candles. We needed some sort of sweet to sing a "Happy Birthday" tune over! Don't worry, I had some cherry cheesecake on hand for him too.

It was a lovely birthday day and we will celebrate again tomorrow with a date night. For his present he chose to hit the skies, taking a "discovery flight" before he starts his official lessons. My man has most definitely caught the flying bug, or something similar to that. It's wonderful when dreams start to become reality!

Flower Child

Hello friends! It's such a beautiful day here in Green Bay and we're loving this gorgeous sunshine! Little E and I spent some time running around town this morning, meeting with friends & swinging in the park.

My man called me a flower child when he saw my head wrapped in a scarf and so named the title of this post. Must have seemed terribly groovy to him but he just goes along with the madness. I think it's going to be a summer filled with silky head scarves, don't you?
